STOURPORT Swifts host Pershore Town in the second round of the Worcestershire Royal Infirmary Cup tomorrow night.

Pershore boss Neil Hunt has a full strength squad to chose from and is confident his Midland Combination Premier Division outfit can spring a surprise.

Swifts are currently third-from-bottom of the Southern League Division One Midlands table and Hunt believes his side can match them.

Hunt said: "We have a few players who could play at Stourport's level.

"We have watched them and I don't think there is a difference of two divisions between the way the two sides play."

Westfields' six-match unbeaten run ended away at fifth-placed Romulus as the Sutton Coldfield-based side recorded a comfortable 2-0 home win.

The Herefordshire side paid the penalty for two defensive lapses in an otherwise evenlymatched Midland Alliance game. Westfields had an early chance when Jamie Cuss hit a blistering 20-yard shot inches wide of the post but then the home side twice missed good chances through Tyrone Fagen and Craig Thomas.

Romulus opened the scoring through Thomas in the 37th minute following a rapid counter-attack.

The visitors then defended well before the break and Jon Pugh made two brave saves at the feet of Fagen and Westfields ended the half with Jamie Edwards rifling a shot just wide.

After the interval, Romulus doubled their advantage as Thomas pounced on a loose ball in the six-yard box to make it 2-0 in the 55th minute.

Pugh was then called into action again, producing a fine diving save to deny Fagen.

Romulus 'keeper Matt Harns saved brilliantly from a Scott Jackson volley.

Elsewhere, Westfields' Herefordshire Premier League side lost 1-0 at Kington.

Westfields 17-year-old midfielder Ashley Day is spending this week on trial with Blackburn Rovers.

Day has been a member of the Westfields team all season and has been watched by several clubs following a string of successful performances.

Chief executive Andy Mossis said: "Blackburn Rovers made contact with our manager Sean Edwards following scouts watching Ashley and he has been invited this week to stay, train and play at Blackburn Rovers.

"It's a tremendous opportunity and great experience for the lad."

Bromyard Town caused a real upset in the West Midlands Premier Division with a terrific 2-1 win at high-flyers Lye Town. The home team started brightly but found Bromyard's defence, including stand-in 'keeper Paul Maynard, in defiant mood. Against the run of play, Maynard's long kick found new striker Michael Hollis who smashed an unstoppable volley past Lye's goalkeeper to give the visitors the lead in the 22nd minute. Bromyard then settled down and controlled the remainder of the first-half.

Within seconds of the re-start, a great move by the visitors saw Aaron Drake's shot brilliantly saved. This seemed to spur Lye into action and they threw everything at the visitors.

But dogged defending by Bromyard kept the scoreline the same until the 70th minute when determination by Hollis got him another fine goal to seal a welcome victory for the away side. Lye managed to pull a goal back in the dying seconds of the game, direct from a corner, but it was too late to change the outcome of the match.

New signing Aaron Hughes also did well on his debut for Bromyard.
