WORCESTER Warrior Ryan Bower is expecting a titanic battle with Canada tomorrow as he the prop seeks to build on an impressive start at Sixways for the Championship XV.
The prop made the switch from Leicester Tigers over the summer after finding it tough to break through at Welford Road.
But his talent was not lost on Dean Ryan, who also ferried in youngsters such as Dan George, Niall Annett and former Harlequins flyer Sam Smith. and All have made an impact.
Bower has made four starts in the league so far but alongside Worcester favourites Jonny Arr and James Percival, faces an altogether different challenge in the Canadians tomorrow.
Nottingham coach Martin Haag will lead out an all-star Championship XV against a nation who will be looking to start their four-match tour on a high.
Bower says he’s planning to use his early-season momentum to help entertain Sixways again – even if he’s playing in a different shirt.
“When it comes to rugby, a friendly is out of the question,” said the former England Under-20 international. “Everyone’s going out there to smash each other and I think it will be a great challenge to play an international team.
“We’ll show everyone how the good the Championship is and I’m sure a really good match will come out of it.
“It’s been a good start to the season for me. With the structure Dean has put in, he’s gone out and brought young players through to give them a season of playing rugby frequently.
“Hopefully that stands up well in the long run rather than and not just changing the squad straight away, like London Welsh did – we’re going to get a team together and build it from the ground up to try and get promotion.
“We had a night with the fans and they said they were really pleased with how the team is going, and any team Worcester put out at the minute is going so well. Competition for places is great and there’s an atmosphere about us.
“Every single player, It doesn’t matter if you’re an academy player or a senior highlight, they treat every single player the same and give everyone the same coaching – I’ve got Mefin Davies helping me out every week in the scrum. Everyone’s improved week on week and it’s paying off.”
