AFTER losing the toss on a flat wicket at Tunbridge Wells, it was a great effort by all of our bowlers to dismiss Kent for 258.
It was just frustrating the rain ruined the game. The seamers kept it tight before Saeed Ajmal and Moeen Ali bowled really well in tandem.
Joe Leach got the wickets so it was good for him to replace Gaz Andrew and hit the ground running.
Joe’s stats in the second XI have been really good this season and he has to be credited for the improvement made to his game over the last two or three years.
He has worked hard on all areas to improve as a professional cricketer and has come on in leaps and bounds.
Joe can do a job for us as a genuine all-rounder – he is batting at number eight but could certainly go in at number five or six.
With the ball, he has come into the side as a third seamer and done a good job.
Joe wouldn’t have been the next seamer in line for a first XI place in April but did well captaining the seconds and forced his way in.
There will be other guys in the seconds wanting a shot at stepping up but Joe is at the front of the queue right now.
Charlie Morris signed a new contract to keep him at New Road until the end of 2017 and can play knowing he will be a professional for at least the next three years.
I am sure he will go on well beyond that too and it is great credit to him as a 20-year-old to have done so well for us.
He bowls with great control, which is impressive for such a young bowler, and has helped carry the burden of replacing Alan Richardson.
We start our LV= County Championship game with Surrey tomorrow and it is always nice to go to one of the big grounds at The Oval.
They have not got as many points on the board as they may have hoped for and we go there full of confidence.
I spent a lot of time coming through the ranks with Steven Davies, while Gareth Batty is in form after taking an eight-fer in his last match.
If you had offered me 700 runs before the end of May at the start of the season, I’d have snapped your hand off.
It has gone really well for me so far, it is about doing the right things and having a little bit of luck along the way.
Hopefully, that can continue and will help get us into winning positions, which is the most important thing.
We picked up our first win of the NatWest T20 Blast season at Nottinghamshire.
It has been a tough test with three games at Test match venues to start, but it was an unbelievably good all-round display at Trent Bridge.
Apart from his no-balls, Chris Russell bowled very well, while Brett D’Oliveira was also excellent.
