HAVING Saeed Ajmal joining us for tomorrow's LV= County Championship match against Derbyshire is a massive boost for everyone.

While we have had a great start without him, which has been pleasing, to bring someone of his quality into the squad can only help us.

Although he is a spinner, he can take wickets on any surface. If you try to produce wickets that spin too much it can bring the more mediocre spinners into the game a bit more.

Saeed can turn the ball on anything and he's a proven match-winner. He practices as hard as anyone as well. He is the first one over in the nets in the morning when he gets here and does extra training with his bowling.

The likes of Moeen Ali benefitted a lot the last time he was at the club and Shaaiq Choudhry and Brett D'Oliveira can learn from him this time.

The batsmen, too, can pick his knowledge because he's played in a lot of Test matches for Pakistan. A lot of us can tap into his knowledge, not just the spinners.

We have made a good start - drawing with Hampshire and beating Kent - and played some good cricket so it would have been nice to keep that momentum going but the fixtures have not allowed for that.

Instead, we have had a week off, which has given the bowlers a bit of respite because it's been pretty full on since pre-season with a lot of cricket. We are looking forward to getting out there tomorrow at New Road.

Results breed confidence. It was a good draw at Hampshire and the performance that we put in against Kent was really pleasing, there were contributions all round and a lot of the players got runs.

Myself and Alexei Kervezee scored against Hampshire while against Kent, it was Alexei again and Ben Cox who impressed.

We were always pretty confident of doing well this season and we have got a lot of belief in the squad.

At times last year we showed glimpses of what we can do and that we can beat anybody on our day. It was just about being more consistent.

I thought the Hampshire game was a real confidence-booster. It doesn't matter how many pre-season games you play, it doesn't compare to getting out there in the middle when you are tested.

You aim to transfer the practice into the games and we did that against Kent as well.

Hopefully, we can continue that on for the rest of the season.
