I THINK the Workington match was probably the poorest we have played for many weeks.
The team has been playing really well in recent games and Monday night's 2-2 draw was the worst we have played.
It was a flat performance and hopefully it's a one-off. We managed to get away with it and get a point out of the game but with our performances of late it was a bit of a shock but at some point we were going to drop below that level.
I started the game with Adam Webster and Abderrahman Traore up front.
Maybe if I had gone with Mark Danks or Craig Wilding alongside Webster or Traore it might have made a difference.
From my point of view, maybe I got the team selection wrong but we were very flat throughout the team.
It wasn't just the strikers, although ultimately they did OK and created the opportunity for the first goal that got us back in the game. We didn't win the battle in midfield and we didn't defend well.
There have been a lot of games called off in the reserves recently and both Webster and Traore needed games.
There have also been a lot of tough games in the league and they were fresh and I thought they were ready to come in and do a job and help with the workload.
They will be better for the amount of time they got on the pitch and that will stand us in good stead later in the season.
We came back from 2-0 down while not playing well so to come away with a point is a really good effort.
When you are playing so poorly and the performance is flat, it's difficult to lift yourselves but, credit to the players, they stuck at it and had the desire to get back in the game.
We had Workington under a lot of pressure in the second-half.
We definitely should have got something out of the Farsley Celtic game on Saturday, which we lost 1-0, and we were fortunate to get something out of the Workington fixture.
Looking at it, we probably didn't deserve more than two or three points over the two games but we can only look forward. It's hopefully a performance we will put behind us.
We are still in the shake-up and just three points off the Nationwide North play-off positions.
It's still a better position than we were in the last two years so I am optimistic of us making a push for the rest of the season and trying to reach the latter stages of the FA Trophy.
It will be a tough game in the second round against Burton Albion on Saturday with them being the Conference side.
However, I wouldn't think the Workington result will damage our confidence - one game can just be a blip.
