WORCESTER City say they won’t be implementing any cost-cutting measures to plug the gap left by the Careys New Homes sponsorship deal.

The Wembley-based property firm, which is redeveloping the club’s former St George’s Lane home for housing, pumped an annual £62,500 into the coffers for three years.

But the final payment came in December, meaning City will have to find other ways of making the books balance in the future.

Although the state of the Blue and Whites’ finances have not been disclosed, with an annual general meeting planned before the end of the season, it is thought they are in decent shape.

Around £50,000 was generated through the £100 season-ticket offer last summer to help the transition to Aggborough and a similar scheme is being considered for the 2014-15 campaign.

A club statement said: “The club does not underestimate the challenge posed by the loss of this major sponsorship money but is planning to move into next season without it.

“Although budgets have not yet been set, the club does not, at this stage, anticipate having to implement cost-cutting measures to compensate for this loss.

“Clearly, this is a matter which will be kept under review in the light of factors such as season ticket sales.

“There are many variable factors which will influence how the club will perform financially over the coming season but, if ultimately necessary, the club could accommodate any resultant losses in the short term, although it will be making every effort to ensure any such losses remain at a minimum.”

It continued: “The club is currently looking at ways of increasing its revenue streams and this includes exploring additional sponsorship opportunities.

“It will also be launching season ticket details for next season in the coming weeks.

“The club is aware that, in the current financial climate, attracting sponsorship can be challenging and this is further compounded by the fact it is currently playing home games away from the city of Worcester.”

The Skrill North outfit are also set to announce a fans’ forum in the near future to outline plans for next season, when they are expected to remain at Kidderminster Harriers, and progress with the Worcester City Supporters’ Trust proposal for a stadium off Bilford Road, Perdiswell.

The statement added: “It goes without saying that supporters have a key role to play in the club’s future and maintaining the dialogue with them has proved to be one of the challenges since the club left St George’s Lane.

“Every effort will be made by the board to ensure that supporters are kept informed of developments and, indeed, have the opportunity to contribute to the future of Worcester City Football Club.”
