MANAGER Gary Whild has strengthened his Kidderminster Harriers backroom staff with the addition of former club captain Mark Creighton.

The 32-year-old, who played 158 times for Harriers between 2006 and 2009, has joined the Aggborough outfit as a coach after retiring through a series of knee injuries.

He will work alongside both Whild and former England international keeper Tim Flowers, who arrived at the club last week.

Creighton, part of the team that reached the FA Trophy final in 2007, captained Harriers during the 2008-09 season.

Nicknamed 'The Beast', he also played for Oxford United and Wrexham but was forced to hang up his boots in December due to injury.

He was a fans' favourite at Aggborough and should get a warm reception when he takes his place in the dug-out for tonight's Skrill Premier clash against Macclesfield Town.

Harriers are looking to build on the point they picked up at Creighton's former club Wrexham on Saturday, also Whild's first game in charge since taking over from Andy Thorn.

That result has left them six points adrift of the play-off places and a win tonight would keep their aspirations of finishing in the top five on track.

Whild will also be looking for a repeat of their effort shown in securing a share of the spoils against the Dragons.

"The one thing you couldn't fault them for was effort," he said. "To keep a clean sheet and come away with a result is fantastic and the lads deserve a lot of credit.

"The pitch wasn't ideal to get it down and play and in the first-half we were a bit guilty of trying to do that because that's the style we want to play.

"But I thought in the second-half we got ourselves into some great positions with some good approach play and movement and we looked good on the eye.

"On another day we'd definitely have deserved a goal and we are disappointed not to have won it but if you can come away from home in this league and keep a clean sheet, you have to be happy with that."

Macclesfield are looking for their first win in three games following Saturday's home draw with Grimsby and a 1-0 defeat at Welling.
