JONNY Arr feels he has a major role to play in making Worcester Warriors a force in the future.

The scrum-half has committed himself to the Sixways club beyond the end of this season after signing a contract extension.

Arr, a former Royal Grammar School Worcester pupil, has come through the ranks at Warriors and is now among an elite group of players to have clocked up more than 100 appearances.

The 25-year-old has gone from young pretender to first XV regular and now finds himself central to director of rugby Dean Ryan's plans.

Arr said: "Despite the tough times that we currently find ourselves in, I genuinely believe that Dean is the right man at the top and he's put together a really good coaching and management team that is definitely going to bring success in the future.

"I've seen coaches come and go in my time here and never really seen much else change but Dean laid out his plans for the future and there is dramatic change under way in the next couple of years to really kick-start this club.

"A big thing for me was I didn't want to leave now and see a successful Worcester team in the next few years. I'd be really gutted not being a part of it and Dean has convinced me of what's to come. The future does look good and I certainly want to be a part of that."

He continued: "Chris (Pennell) and Alex (Grove) signed up a while back, now there's myself and hopefully there's a few more that are Worcester-based who can sign up.

"It's strange to think that we're not the younger players any more. Myself, Alex and Chris have all got over 100 appearances now for the club and we've got to use that experience to help the younger generation coming through."

Warriors face Sale Sharks at Sixways tomorrow (2pm) and Arr believes recent displays against Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers will hold them in good stead.

"The Leicester game was a bit of a turning point for us considering the week before when Exeter put 40 points on us," he said.

"We just wanted to see a reaction from all the boys on the pitch and it certainly came against Leicester. We put everything into that game and were really unfortunate not to come away with a victory.

"Again, last week against Northampton I think for large parts of the game we showed that desire and emotion that's needed week in week out to search for a result.

"Credit to Sale, they've been having a fantastic season so far and they'll be looking to finish their season strongly. But every home game at Sixways is one we target to win so tomorrow will be no different."
