A LATE strike from Luke Reynolds and a superb performance from goalkeeper Scott Bevan at Southport helped Harriers gain their fourth consecutive win.

Bevan saved a second-half penalty from Dino Maamria to cap an impressive all-round display and keep his side heading in the right direction in the table.

Both teams had chances to score early on in difficult conditions and James Constable went close for Harriers with a header after nine minutes.

Southport's Dan Kirkup rep-lied with a shot through a crowd of players that Bevan was able to hold two minutes later.

The hosts had the most possession in the first 20 minutes but it was Harriers who looked the more dangerous. Constable found himself one-on-one with the Southport goalkeeper with 25 on the clock and went in for the ball some 10 yards in front of Francois Dubourdeau, only to be booked for catching the stopper when his momentum carried him through.

At the other end, Maamria was cautioned 10 minutes before the break after going down far too easily in the box.

The visitors had two further chances to break the deadlock before the interval through Gavin Hurren's header and Michael Blackwood's low shot.

Five minutes after the interval, Southport were awarded a penalty when Mark Creighton fouled Maamria and the man himself stepped up to take the kick but was denied by an excellent save from Bevan.

After Russell was denied at the other end by substitute goalkeeper Paul Harrison, Bevan pulled off another great save from Sean Doherty's low drive as the game looked like it might be heading for a draw.

With 20 minutes of the game remaining, the Harriers 'keeper palmed away a shot from Carl Baker.

Shortly before the end, the deadlock was broken. Black-wood was flattened in the area by two defenders and Rey-nolds was on hand to smash the ball it into the roof of the net.

Harriers will now look to continue their run when they entertain Cambridge today. With Iyseden Christie's initial loan spell at the club over, Reynolds and other Harriers' strikers will be looking to take the opportunity to secure regular first-team spots.
