UNITED continued their fine holiday form which has seen them pick up seven points and three clean-sheets from their three matches.

But the Bulls had to survive a good deal of pressure from a battling Wrexham side and it took two excellent pieces of finishing from Alan Connell to extend their unbeaten home run to six matches.

Connell, who was pulled back into a position behind front pair Tim Sills and Stuart Fleetwood after a virus infection ruled out Rob Purdie, gave notice of his threat after just two minutes.

The former Torquay man fired in a first-time shot from 20 yards which defeated goalkeeper Michael Ingham but clipped the top of the bar and continued over and out of play.

After that, it was the Red Dragons who had much the better of the action, despite fielding a much-weakened side due to injuries and suspension.

Matt Done blazed a great chance over from 12 yards and Wayne Brown produced a couple of fine stops from Matt Crowell and Marc Williams before a swift break-out saw Hereford take the lead.

Simon Travis made good ground down the left and delivered a cross with his left foot which Connell struck first-time past Ingham.

But Wrexham quickly hit back and only another fine stop from Brown prevented Crowell's deflected drive from creeping in the bottom corner of the net.

Ingham was quickly off his line to grab the ball off Fleetwood's toes as Hereford made a lively start to the second-half but the Bulls were soon pegged back as Wrexham moved back on to the attack.

Kevin Smith clipped the outside of a post with a powerful drive and Brown saved well when Lee McEvilly got in a powerful header from a Done cross.

But near misses count for nothing and Wrexham were made to pay by another well-worked Hereford goal three minutes from time.

Again, Travis had a strong involvement, receiving one of many good passes from Andy Ferrell before racing down the left and slipping a pass inside to Andy Williams.

The substitute laid the ball perfectly into the path of Connell who cracked a 20-yard shot into the net to seal the points.

With Wrexham now dispirited, Travis and Ferrell went close to adding a third with powerful long-range drives.
