WARRIORS director of rugby John Brain admitted his side's Premiership chances will be "totally written off" after they succumbed to their 10th de-feat of the season against London Irish.

The 27-20 reversal, their second loss in less than a week, leaves Worcester nine points adrift at the bottom of the table at the half-way stage.

"I suppose the situation is we will be totally written off," said Brain. "We have got nothing to lose really.

"The only crumb of comfort is we have lost two games in the last five days, both of which we could quite easily have won."

The Quins defeat was especially galling because two of their three tries came from basic errors when Worcester were in possession.

"It was a must-win game and you can't fault the attitude, endeavour, commitment and work-rate of the players but unfortunately some poor execution let us down and they scavenge very well," said Brain.

"There is no reason why we can't win any game that we play but what let us down against Quins was we made mistakes and they capitalised on them.

"Over the first 11 games we have been the worst team in the league, otherwise we wouldn't be bottom. We are not losing games by much and we have got to make sure we turn those margins around."

Despite his side's perilous position, Brain believes there is still plenty to play for.

"I think the test is what happens over the next few weeks," he said. "Until Wednesday, Quins hadn't won a game since November 17.

"It's funny how things can turn around. We know now as a team we have got a clear choice. We either fragment or we stay together and I think it would be a shame if we fragmented because we know we are capable of winning any game we play.

"We want the next five months to be productive."
