TROUBLED Hereford United have been served with a winding-up order over an unpaid tax bill.
The Edgar Street club owe an undisclosed amount to HM Revenue and Customs, dating back to November 26, and must appear at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Monday, January 27.
United have been struggling financially in recent months and in December appealed to fans to help raise £35,000 to cover wages.
Although more than £20,000 of that figure has been achieved, the club are not thought to have reached the target, mainly due to the postponement of the Skrill Premier derby against Kidderminster Harriers on New Year’s Day.
However, the Bulls expect to be able to resolve the situation by signing new leases for Edgar Street with Herefordshire Council on Monday.
That will enable them to confirm a contract for a six-figure sum with a telecoms company, thus allowing them to avoid being wound up.
