NEW Kidderminster Harriers manager Andy Thorn says he is excited by the challenge of winning promotion to the Football League.
The 47-year-old former Coventry City boss has agreed a one-year rolling contract at Aggborough to replace Steve Burr, who was sacked on Tuesday.
Chairman Mark Serrell cited the move as key to Harriers’ aim of promotion and said that the board were “fully committed to taking whatever step necessary to reach that goal”.
But, after Burr’s dismissal, the Harriers chief also reportedly stated he had no replacement lined up.
Thorn, part of the Wimbledon side that won the FA Cup in 1988, was sacked by Coventry in August 2012 after they were relegated to League One. He has most recently been working as an FA scout in Roy Hodgson’s England set-up ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.
Thorn said: “I have been most impressed by all aspects of the club, and the board share my vision when it comes to what our short and longer-term goals are and how we can achieve them.”
Serrell added: “I’ve known about Andy and his qualities for quite some time and, once we were presented with the challenge of finding a new manager, he was at the forefront of my mind.”
