THE players don’t care and most of them aren’t good enough: That was manager Carl Heeley’s blunt assessment of Worcester City’s 6-1 thrashing at Bradford Park Avenue.

Despite taking the lead at the Horsfall Stadium, the Blue and Whites slumped to their heaviest defeat of the campaign and remain second-from-bottom in Skrill North.

“We got beaten 6-1 and there’s no hiding from that, we deserved what we got,” Heeley said.

“We were lacking character, people who cared and I’m embarrassed.

“I would like to say the players are embarrassed but I don’t think they really care that much.

“Not enough of them care and the bottom line is we’re messing round with a large number of players who are not anywhere near good enough to play at the level of football we’re at.

“They went under and I thought we went under against Oxford City and in the first-half last week against Gloucester.

“That’s character and having pride in yourself as an individual, pride in performance and playing for a good football club.

“Some players don’t know how lucky they are that they’ve got an opportunity to play at this level and on today’s performance, they’re not going to get many more opportunities.”

Of the game, the City boss said: “We should have had a free-kick in the build up to Bradford’s first goal, it was a clear handball but the referee said it wasn’t deliberate.

“We then had a great opportunity to go 2-1 ahead, which was slightly unfortunate because Ethan said their player kicked the ball against him.

“But then we were 3-1 down within five minutes and from then on it was just a capitulation and we went under. Every time they attacked they looked like scoring.”
