WINGER Jon Brown hopes to start the new year as he finished 2013 after scoring his first goal for Hereford United.
The 23-year-old finally broke his United duck at the 16th attempt with the winner in last Saturday’s 1-0 Skrill Premier victory over Forest Green Rovers.
It was his first goal in England since playing for Telford United, who he left 12 months ago for Thailand to pursue a playing career abroad.
Since returning to these shores last summer and linking up with Hereford, Brown has featured in a mixture of starts and substitute appearances, but also struggled with a recent ankle injury.
However, his goal ensured the Bulls head into 2014 with a win under their belts and he will look to use that as inspiration at Woking today (3pm).
The game must pass an 8.30am pitch inspection this morning, though.
Bulls manager Martin Foyle was full of praise for former Southport and Bath City player Brown.
“What a magnificent finish it was,” he said. “Browny has not played a lot of football, he’s been out injured, and to come in and last 90 minutes just shows you his attitude to football.”
Meanwhile, Hereford take on Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup fourth round on Wednesday, January 15.
The Edgar Street outfit’s youngsters have enjoyed a fine season in the competition and beat Bournemouth 4-3 on penalties in the previous round.
The City tie will be at Hyde’s Ewen Fields (7pm).
