ANDY Preece was delighted to take a point from Worcester City's 1-1 draw at Kettering Town today.

Mark Danks' 82nd-minute strike ensured Preece's men took a share of the spoils from the Nationwide North clash.

Player-manager Preece said: "I am pleased with a point, I thought we played really well.

"I am delighted to come to a place like this with the quality of players they have and get a point. For me, they are the best side in the league and to get a point is a fantastic result."

The City boss was pleased with the manner of the draw, even though a defensive lapse let Kettering take the lead.

He said: "We didn't chuck men behind the ball and try and negate them, we had a go.

"I was gutted with the goal we conceded right on half-time because, apart from Darren Caskey's effort which we cleared off the line, they hadn't had too many opportunities.

"We kept it very, very tight and looked lively at times going forward. That could have really knocked the stuffing out of a team but we responded to that and in the second-half we just kept going.

"We had three or four free headers and we never hit the target. Heads could go down but we showed great character to keep going and the least that we deserved was to get a point out of the game."

But Preece is aware City need to continue their efforts at rivals Redditch on Saturday and with Kettering at St George's Lane on New Year's Day.

He said: "Any positive result here was going to be a good result for us so it's good to take into the next two games but it's worth very little if we go to Redditch and lose and we lose at home to Kettering.

"It keeps us in and around the play-offs and keeps Kettering close to us. Nothing is going to be settled over these next three games, it will probably be the end of January before we see the top of the table taking shape."
