WES Joyce banged in a penalty seven minutes from time as Malvern earned a deserved point at St George's Lane today.

It was the centre-forward who got on the end of a corner only to see his goalbound header handled on the line by Simon Fitter.

The Evesham midfield man saw red before Joyce beat Nathan Vaughan from 12 yards.

United made the early running and Steve Duncan and Richard Ball had efforts on goal that were bettered by Joyce's 30-yarder on 16 minutes that Vaughan managed to hang onto underneath his crossbar.

The deadlock was broken eight minutes before the break when ex-Malvern striker Mark Owen did superbly to set-up Ball who beat Craig Humphries from 10 yards out.

Vaughan diverted Riki Halion's diving header past a post and Joyce flashed a free-kick wide as Town ended the half on top.

Vaughan's bravery prevented Joyce levelling two minutes after the restart before the Robins hit back with Owen and Duncan going close and James Fox seeing his 20-yard volley splendidly tipped over by Humphries.

Both sides made substitutions but it was Malvern who were the more dangerous with Joyce and Andy Cartwright coming close to grabbing the equaliser.

It was the former Evesham man who made the match all-square and he celebrated in style with a galloping run down the touchline much to the delight of the visiting fans.

Meanwhile, Nathan Lamey's opener was cancelled out by Tom Winters as Bromsgrove Rovers drew 1-1 at Brackley Town in a clash of the Southern League Division One Midlands' top two sides.

Lamey grabbed his 17th goal of the season to hand Rovers a 33rd-minute lead, but Winters equalised with his 14th goal of the campaign in the 73rd minute.

Dean Curtis and Chris Brindley were on target as Stourport Swifts lost 4-2 at Solihull Borough.
