WORCESTER City booked their place in the FA Trophy second round against Burton Albion with an emphatic 5-2 victory at 10-man Barrow tonight.
Mark Danks scored twice in two minutes late on to add to a Graham Ward free-kick and strikes from George Clegg and Craig Wilding.
It was a result that handed City their third win at Holker Street in 2006, having won there on the opening day of the season and at the back end of the last campaign.
The visitors, who had never won on the Cumbrian coast before this year, were handed another boost as Adam Webster made his first appearance since his ankle injury in August, coming on as an 82nd-minute substitute.
Barrow competed for the majority of a sometimes bad-tempered match to draw level at 1-1 and 2-2, despite having Ryan Zico Black sent-off for a straight red after just 26 minutes.
City, who had Chris Smith, Ward and Clegg booked, went ahead in spectacular fashion after 13 minutes when Clegg produced a fine dipping volley from 25 yards to beat Jamie Speare in the Barrow goal.
But the match boiled over on 26 minutes. A mass brawl ensued after Dennis Pearce went to ground and Zico Black, a recent signing from Lancaster, was given his marching orders for his part in the proceedings.
However, Barrow, whose fans gave the referee serious grief throughout, came back into the tie.
They were rewarded for their efforts with an equaliser on the stroke of half-time when Tom Pope followed up after Danny McDonnell saved Colin Potts' deflected free-kick.
City's second arrived on 64 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Mike Eckersley was judged to have handled Danks' cross. Speare blocked Clegg's spot-kick but Wilding netted the rebound.
Barrow continued to defy being a man light and drew level again when sub Nick Rogan headed home Steve Flitcroft's excellent cross on 74 minutes.
But the lead lasted just four minutes as Ward lined up a free-kick and fired it confidently past Speare from 20 yards.
Andy Preece's side began to make their extra man tell as they bossed the closing stages.
Danks headed home from a left-wing corner after 81 minutes and expertly rounded Speare to net the fifth two minutes later.
McDonnell was also in fine form for the visitors, producing top-class saves from successive corners to push away headers from Flitcroft and Pope at the end of the first-half.
City: McDonnell, Ward, Burley, Smith, Thompson, Pearce (Warmer 46), Wedgbury (Colley 46), Cornes (Webster 82), Danks, Wilding, Clegg. Subs not used: Wood, Lyttle.
Attendance: 690.
