WORCESTER Wolves director of basketball Mick Donovan has insisted the side will keep battling in the British Basketball League despite another heavy defeat.

Having seen his side, who remain at the foot of the BBL ladder, slip to a 93-62 defeat against Scottish Rocks at the University of Worcester sports centre, Donovan was remaining upbeat.

He said: "No change from recent weeks in that we have to take the defeat on the chin and go away and use the Christmas break to find ways to improve.

"As stated before, you learn a lot more about people in the hard times than you do in the good ones. We will keep going."

Wolves coach Josh Cooprider fielded a different starting five for the Rocks' visit, including forwards Sergio Rodriguez, Tom Perkes and Solomon Sheard.

In the opening quarter, the bold strategy appeared to be paying off as the home side raced into an early 7-0 lead with baskets from Andy Harper and Sheard.

When the Rocks finally did respond, Harper hit another three-pointer as Wolves raced into a 23-19 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second period, Sheard continued to cause problems for the visitors yet there was little other threat for the Wolves as the Rocks edged into a half-time lead of 41-36.

The dreaded third quarter was again the crucial turning point for the Worcester side with only 11 points being added to Wolves' scoreline, while the Rocks contributed an impressive 28-point tally.

Once again, missed shots and passes contributed to the hosts' downfall.

The toll of so many recent defeats appeared to be evident as the Worcester side lacked confidence at crucial periods.

Rodriguez battled valiantly for Wolves and youngster Steve Archer made a significant contribution in his increased minutes on the court.

The final quarter saw a slight improvement for Wolves, yet a game that appeared winnable in the opening half had once again slipped away.

The Christmas break, which sees Wolves without a fixture until the Rocks' next visit to Worcester on December 30, needs to be used to get some key injured players back to fitness as well as to renew the team's confidence.
