ASSISTANT manager Gary Whild says the FA Cup shocks pulled off by non-league minnows are proof Kidderminster Harriers can’t take Sutton United for granted.

Harriers take on the Skrill South high-fliers in the first round proper at Aggborough next Saturday after edging past Bradford Park Avenue.

But Harriers needed two bites of the cherry, including extra-time in last Tuesday’s replay, to finally see off the Yorkshire club, who, like Sutton, play in the second tier of non-league.

At the same time as Steve Burr’s side were winning 2-1, fellow Skrill Premier side Aldershot Town were being dumped out of the competition.

The Shots were stunned 2-1 at home in their replay by Southern League Division One South and West strugglers Shortwood United, who now face a money-spinning encounter against Port Vale live on BT Sport.

Another Skrill Premier outfit, Forest Green Rovers, were also beaten 1-0 on their own turf by lower-ranked Bishop’s Stortford.

With that in mind, Harriers are happy to be through and are keen to avoid another potential banana skin.

Whild said: “The most important thing is we are into the first round and, looking at what happened to Aldershot and Forest Green Rovers, that cannot be taken for granted.

“Bradford deserve a lot of credit for the way they played, if they perform like that in every match they will have the league wrapped up by March.

“But now we’ve got Sutton at home and, as we have seen, you’ve got to take opposition from lower down seriously.”
