FREE-KICK expert Jonny Harkness is targeting a new Kidderminster Harriers contract after firing his way back into the good books.
The former Walsall left-back was given a torrid time in October by the Halifax right-winger in a 2-0 defeat and has had to wait two months for another opportunity.
But Harkness grasped the chance with both hands, thanks to improved defensive displays and three successful free-kicks in two games.
Like many of his team-mates, the 20-year-old's deal ends in the summer and he hopes to retain his shirt at home to Vauxhall Motors in the FA Trophy first round tomorrow (3pm).
Harriers have skipper and centre-half Stuart Whitehead back in contention which could lead to a team shake-up.
Harkness said: "Stuart Whitehead is back so I'm sure he'll be pushing for a place. It's up to the gaffer but I'd like to think he'll keep the same team.
"The longer I stay in the team and show the gaffer I'm worth another year or so the better."
Harriers boss Mark Yates has thanked chairman Barry Norgrove and his board for their patience during a disappointing, inconsistent start to the Conference season overall.
Yates added: "We had a shaky start to the season and the chairman has been strong, which I think he's had to be when things haven't quite gone right.
"The last thing this club needs is another change of manager and it's important to stabilise the ship. I think we're doing that and making progress."
