CARL Heeley wants Worcester City to harness their squad spirit and turn it into precious Skrill North points.

Worcester host fifth-placed North Ferriby United at Aggborough tomorrow (3pm) seeking to lift themselves out of the relegation places.

They are also looking to bounce back just days after being knocked out of the FA Cup 3-0 by Lincoln City.

Manager Heeley was full of praise for the characteristics shown by the players in the fourth qualifying round replay against the Imps and believes that will hold them in good stead.

He said: “What we have to do is take that determination and togetherness we’ve got in the camp into the league campaign.

“We’ve competed very well, it’s only once or twice this season I’ve been disappointed with our performances which isn’t bad coming into November.

“I think we’re a decent side and our league position is slightly false. We’ve got to take the efforts of those two games into the league and try to build a bit of a platform to get up the table.”

The Lincoln defeat was only City’s second in 11 matches in all competitions, although they have only won once in the league during that period — 4-0 against Workington.

They have also drawn four times in Skrill North against Colwyn Bay, Gainsborough Trinity, Telford United and Oxford City.

Despite being 20th in the table, only three points separate City from 14th-placed Guiseley in a congested bottom third.

North Ferriby, by contrast, have enjoyed a fine start to life in non-league’s second tier since promotion from the Northern Premier League with the Villagers just one point behind leaders Hednesford Town, who came up with them via the play-offs.

However, Billy Heath’s team have lost their last two league matches, 3-2 at home to Guiseley and 2-0 at Telford.

The Worcester boss added: “If you look at the players they’ve signed, they took a lot of players off Gainsborough Trinity and they probably had the biggest budget in the league last season.

“They’re spending and they’ve had a good start, are well organised, big and strong and we’re going to have to stand up to that.”

Striker Daniel Nti (hamstring) and central defensive duo Shabir Khan (hernia) and Richard Munday (hamstring) are City’s chief injury concerns.

Should Nti be unavailable, Heeley could turn to Aaron Williams, pictured, who netted against Lincoln last weekend, Ethan Moore or on-loan Birmingham teenager Reece Hales.
