TABLE-topping Worcester Wolves go in search of a seventh straight British Basketball League victory against Plymouth Raiders tomorrow night boosted by two major accolades.

Wolves, whose 80-71 triumph at Newcastle Eagles last Friday moved them two points clear at the summit, are back at the University Arena (7.30pm) for the first time in a fortnight intent on extending their unbeaten start.

Their efforts have been further underlined by director of basketball Paul James being named BBL coach of the month and American centre Will Creekmore scooping the player prize following an average of 20 points and 13 rebounds per game.

It is the first time Wolves have held both awards at the same time and James reckons it is no more than the team deserves.

He said: “This is a testament to how well the team has performed. I’m so proud — everyone has bought into what we are trying to achieve at the club.

“The players have won this award, not me.”

James added: “Confidence is high but Plymouth are going to be a tricky team.

“We have got to keep on sharing the ball, play to our strengths and if we can do that and control their offence, hopefully we can get that seventh win under our belts.”

While Wolves remain undefeated, Plymouth have lost three of their seven matches to date but beat Durham Wildcats 85-73 last time out.

Tomorrow’s match will also see new Wolves centre Andreas Schreiber go up against the team who released him earlier this month.

The Swedish international, who has featured in Worcester’s last three games, said: “I’m excited about tomorrow. Obviously the match will be a little bit personal, but you always want to keep those feelings to a minimum.

“They’re a good bunch there and they have some great players such as Shane Walker who I count as one of my better friends.

“We’re going to have to push hard to win, but we’ll get it done.”

The Plymouth encounter is also one of two in just 24 hours for Wolves as they visit Leicester Riders in the BBL Cup quarter-finals on Saturday (7.30pm).

“It’s not an ideal situation having to play a cup quarter-final a day after a league game,” James added. “It’s unfortunate that’s the way the fixture list has panned out.

“We’ve just got to take care of Plymouth first and then we’ll focus on what we have to do against Leicester.”
