THE prospect of facing Football League opposition in the FA Cup first round proper is Worcester City’s incentive when they bid to topple Lincoln City tonight (7.45).

Having drawn 1-1 against the Imps at Aggborough last Saturday, the Blue and Whites head to Sincil Bank for a fourth qualifying round replay.

The stakes are high with a lucrative home tie against League Two outfit Plymouth Argyle for the winners and £12,500 in prize money.

“It’s potentially another home draw so it’s an incentive to try and get through the tie,” said manager Carl Heeley.

“Lincoln are going to get a good crowd and, with the gates being split in both ties, it’s financially rewarding for the club and we’ve still got an opportunity to get our hands on £12,500.

“If you take out the Stockport game, we’ve defended well all season and that’s what we try to build on. We’ll go there and we’ll be tough to break down again.”

He added: “I think whoever gets through out of Lincoln and ourselves will fancy their chances of causing an upset.

“Plymouth have been knocked out of the competition in the last couple of years by non-league teams so they won’t be relishing that whoever they play.”

Chairman Anthony Hampson also believes Worcester are more than capable of getting the better of Skrill Premier Lincoln on their own turf.

He said: “Last Saturday was one of the best games I’ve seen this season and I think the team clicked and the passing was excellent.

“The goal we put together in the second-half was a great effort and I know it’s disappointing that we conceded near the end but we’ve still got another bite at the cherry.

“They get good gates and we get a share of that and I think the confidence shown could mean that we will go there and give them an extremely tough match. It’s not a done deal at all.”

City will be hoping that on-loan Torquay United winger Niall Thompson, who set up Aaron Williams’ goal at the weekend, will have recovered from an ankle knock.

“We’ve got a few bumps and bruises but that’s normal after games,” Heeley said. “We’ll see how they settle down but we’ve got a decent bench.”

Midfielder Phil Trainer has been recalled from his loan by Nuneaton.
