ALTHOUGH we didn’t get the right result, our overall performance against Exeter Chiefs was a huge improvement.

Our display against Sale Sharks the previous week was bitterly disappointing in front of our own fans because we didn’t really show up. There are ways in which you lose but not giving it your all is disappointing.

It was important for us to right that wrong at Exeter and, looking at the performance in terms of effort, I couldn’t fault the players.

Everyone worked really hard in the game but we let ourselves down slightly by making too many errors. The six tries they scored were not through our lack of effort, it was individual errors.

The scoreline definitely doesn’t reflect the effort we put in.

There’s no shame in losing to Exeter, they put 44 points on Cardiff Blues and 29 on Gloucester so they are a team in form and you have to recognise they are a decent side.

What we failed to do was take advantage of the wind in the first-half.

We spoke about starting well but conceded a couple of tries early on but from then on in the first-half we pretty much dominated possession but failed to get points on the board.

Overall, the Exeter game was loads better than the Sale match but we can still improve week after week and we have got a big game against Bath on Friday.

As a group of players we haven’t done ourselves justice at home this season.

It’s important at home to put pressure on teams and make it a fortress by always looking to win.

We have let teams off the hook this season so it’s important for us to start the game well and put in a really good performance for the fans to get behind.

We want to get out of the hole we are in and start to turn our season around and the fans can really help us with that by turning out in numbers and getting behind us, which they have so far. Hopefully we can put on a good performance.

Against Exeter, it was good to see Agustin Creevy make his first start for the club.

He’s a good international player who did well for us carrying the ball and I think he will be a big asset for us for the remainder of the season.

Ignacio Meires, who scored our points at Sandy Park, is a passionate player who works so hard.

He’s at the club the longest every day and players like that reap the rewards in the end and he deserves all that he gets.
