DIRECTOR of basketball Paul James says Worcester Wolves are determined to stretch their unbeaten start to the season to seven matches at Newcastle Eagles tonight (7.30).

Five wins in a row have propelled Wolves to the British Basketball League summit and they have also reached the last eight of the BBL Cup.

While James is aware of the challenge at the Metro Radio Arena, against Fab Flournoy’s side with one defeat to their name this campaign, he believes Wolves will be spurred on by their own record to date.

“It motivates us a bit more to make sure we come away undefeated,” he said. “We are going to try and defend what we have right now.

“We have played Leicester and beaten them and Newcastle are another team who have challenged over the years.

“I don’t see it as a scalp, I see it as another team that we need to be competitive against, play our game and actually have them worry about us rather than us worrying about them.

“We want to come away from that game staying undefeated so we will be giving it everything we’ve got.

Eagles guard Drew Lasker added: “This is a home game for us, so it’s a must-win. In this league you will drop a road game from time to time, but if you want to win the league title you must take care of your business at home regardless of the opponent.”

Meanwhile, Wolves’ BBL Cup quarter-final match at Leicester Riders has been scheduled for next Saturday, 24 hours after they host Plymouth Raiders.
