SKIPPER Stuart Whitehead looks set to return as Kidderminster Harriers bid for a first under boss Mark Yates on Saturday.

Yates is yet to collect three wins in a row since taking over in January but that could change if Harriers see off Nationwide North outfit Vauxhall Motors at Aggborough.

A 3-1 success at Gravesend and 3-2 home win over Altrincham has provided them with a big morale-boost for the FA Trophy first round tie.

Kidderminster have a proud history in non-league's premier cup, winning the title back in 1987 as well as reaching the final in 1991 and 1995.

Vauxhall, meanwhile, attracted a crowd of just 99 for Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to Farsley Celtic which was their third straight league defeat, despite a healthy mid-table position.

But Yates, set to recall centre-half Whitehead after his hamstring injury, will guard against any complacency from a Harriers team who thrashed Nationwide North leaders Droylsden 5-1 in this season's FA Cup.

The Kidderminster manager said: "I've seen them (Vauxhall Motors) and they're a decent team who are just outside the play-offs in the league below.

"They try and play football. They've got some lively forwards and wide players. They'll come down, see the place and fancy their chances of raising their game and causing an upset.

"We've got to make sure we are on our game so that we're not on the receiving end of anything."

Yates will want a similarly forceful start to that produced against Droylsden when Harriers rushed into a three-goal lead within 15 minutes.

And he has a strong squad at his disposal with summer signing Whitehead expected to return, possibly for Gavin Hurren who could then compete for a midfield place.

It will be a big ask to drop left-back Jonny Harkness after his impressive comeback yielded three successful free-kicks in two games, including the winner against Altrincham.

Yates said: "Stuart Whitehead is fine now and he's been training all week.

"Stuart is my captain and there is a good chance he'll get back in. Whoever I leave out can consider themselves unfortunate."

Harriers assistant boss Neil Howarth won the trophy with Macclesfield in 1996 but so did Vauxhall Motors manager Carl Macauley when at Burscough three years ago.

Yates added: "Neil and I have both done well in the FA Trophy before and we're hoping for another good run."
