EVESHAM United boss Paul West believes his side are more than capable of springing a surprise in the FA Trophy.

The Robins are on their cup competition travels again as they visit Nationwide South strugglers Weston-super-Mare for a first round proper clash on Saturday (3pm).

West's Southern League Division One Midlands side, who beat higher-ranked Hemel Hempstead on penalties in the previous round, have enjoyed a remarkable season after their FA Cup heroics.

Following Tuesday's 2-0 league win over local rivals Bromsgrove Rovers, the Evesham manager is confident of more success.

West said: "We are the underdogs. We are not expected to get anything out of the game, like with the Hemel Hempstead game, so we need to play with a relaxed mood.

"We are working on a few things, we have had Weston watched a few times. We will do what we can but it's about how we cope with it ourselves.

"If the boys apply themselves correctly, work hard and are honest, I am more than confident we can give Weston a good game."

West, who watched Weston lose 2-1 at home to Bishop's Stortford on Wednesday, believes the Rovers victory, just three days after losing 3-0 at Sutton Coldfield, was a truer reflection of his team's capabilities.

Steve Lutz, Steve Duncan and Richard Ball were all back in the side and Worcester City defender Danny Hodnett played as part of a one-off cover deal.

"It was superb. I was very happy," West said. "Those four players were a great boost.

"Winning wasn't a massive surprise for me but, taking into account who has been available for the last two weeks, we have done well. Hopefully, we can kick on from there.

"We worked hard against a good Bromsgrove side. We made it difficult for them to play football and I felt we didn't give them a sniff all night. That's testament to the players and we thoroughly deserved the win."
