A POINT was the least Worcester City deserved from their goalless draw at Oxford City, according to manager Carl Heeley.

The Blue and Whites stretched their run without conceding a goal to three games in all competitions at Court Farm Place.

It was also their fourth goalless draw in Skrill North as they kept themselves above the relegation places on goal difference.

“I am pleased with the team, they grafted hard, matched Oxford and a point was the least we deserved,” Heeley said.

“We were the only team trying to play any football, that’s for certain.”

He added: “We’ve come to a team who are the biggest spenders in the league and they just whacked it as far as they could and hoped for the best.

“I thought we defended it comfortably and the best opportunities fell to us.

“I thought the two centre-halves came and headed everything and neither of them lost a header all afternoon.”

However, Heeley was critical of both the pitch and referee Lee Venables, a last-minute replacement for injured Anthony Serrano.

The City boss described the surface as “shocking” and also felt his side were denied a penalty when sub Niall Thompson went to ground in the closing stages.

Heeley said: “It was a stonewall penalty on Niall, I don’t know why we haven’t got it because he had no need to go down there.

“He was two yards from goal and the player dragged him back, it’s a penalty.”

Heeley added: “It’s a shocking surface for his level and we’re only in October.

“Maybe they should redirect a bit of the funds they spend on players into the surface and they might be able to play a bit of football on it then.”
