WORCESTER City are determined to use their FA Cup success as a catalyst to fire them up the Skrill North table.

For the second year running, the Blue and Whites have reached the fourth qualifying round and are one win away from a potential meeting with a Football League club.

Although it took two bites of the cherry to see off Rugby Town, City won 2-0 in Tuesday’s replay having drawn 0-0 at Aggborough last Saturday, it has given them a shot in the arm.

That was just what they needed following their 4-0 drubbing at Stockport County in the last league match which left them one place above the relegation zone.

Now, Carl Heeley’s side will be looking to build on their cup triumph when they head to Oxford City tomorrow (3pm), another team at the wrong end of the table, two places below Worcester.

The City manager said: “We’d like to think that Stockport was a blip, we didn’t play well but we’ve had another two clean sheets in the cup and winning games of football gives you confidence. We’ll go to Oxford and hopefully add another positive result.

“It’s still early doors in the season but we’ve got to try and string a run of games together. We had done that up until the Stockport match and now we’ve kept another two clean sheets and are into the next round of the cup. It’s another foothold and something else to build on.”

While Worcester returned to winning ways against Rugby, Oxford have also found a new lease of life, reaching the FA Cup fourth qualifying round and beating Stalybridge Celtic 2-1 in the league.

Worcester’s last visit to Court Farm Place in August 2012 ended in a 2-2 draw after the visitors twice squandered a lead late on, with Declan Benjamin’s second equaliser coming in stoppage-time.

Mike Symons scored for City on that occasion on his way to becoming the club’s leading scorer, but joined Oxford in the summer and has bagged two goals from 13 appearances.

Centre-half Shabir Khan is expected to be fit after missing the Rugby replay with a hernia problem.
