KIDDERMINSTER Harriers’ quest to close the gap on Skrill Premier leaders Cambridge United takes them to Southport tomorrow (3pm).
It might only be October but the U’s have opened up an eight-point cushion over second-placed Harriers.
Following last Tuesday’s 4-1 victory over Forest Green Rovers, which stretched Kidderminster’s unbeaten run to four matches, they will be keen to get another win on the board as only two points separate them from seventh-placed Salisbury.
Burr was critical of his side following back-to-back goalless draws against Chester and Aldershot but reckoned they were more like the team he expects to see in mid-week.
Now he will look for them to replicate that display, which saw two goals for Amari Morgan-Smith and one each for Kyle Storer and Jack Byrne, against the Sandgrounders.
Burr said: “I was a miserable old git after the Chester game because, as an attacking force, we didn’t do a lot.
“I changed things around for the Forest Green game and played Nathan Blissett up front with Joe Lolley — that was a bit more like it against a side who have invested heavily this season. It was more like what I expect and helped by a peach of a goal by Amari.”
However, Harriers’ injury concerns show no sign of easing with midfielders Callum Gittings and Lee Fowler suffering with hamstring and ankle problems respectively.
Striker Michael Gash (toe), left-back Mickey Demetriou (broken wrist), centre-half Chey Dunkley (knee) and midfielder Jamie Tolley (Achilles) are also missing.
But Burr will also be without James Dance after the club’s appeal against the midfielder’s red card against Forest Green failed, so he will miss the next three games, starting with the Haig Avenue trip.
Dance was sent off in injury-time on Tuesday following an altercation with Rovers’ Arran Racine.
