MANAGER Carl Heeley wants Worcester City to show their character by consigning the Stockport County defeat to history and progressing in the FA Cup.

The Blue and Whites were thrashed 4-0 by the former Football League outfit at Edgeley Park on Saturday to end a run of five matches unbeaten in all competitions.

Heeley had no complaints over the result and admitted his side were “soundly beaten” in the Skrill North contest.

But he is determined to prove it was a one-off and expects his charges to set the record straight against Rugby Town in the FA Cup third qualifying round at Aggborough this Saturday (3pm).

Victory for Worcester would bank them £7,500 and move them one win away from the first round proper.

“From early on at the weekend, we just weren’t at the races and it was a bad day at the office but it’s done now and we can’t afford to mope,” the City boss said.

“We move on to the next game because it’s a big FA Cup match to look forward to. Things like that happen in football and you can throw tea cups around but it’s about responding to it.”

Meanwhile, George Williams could return to the starting line-up against Rugby after an ankle injury.

The right-back was hurt during the 0-0 draw at Colwyn Bay last month but made the bench at Stockport.

Heeley added: “George is nearly there. The intention was to try and give him a run on Saturday but, once the game was dead and buried, it was pointless risking him.

“He’ll have another week’s training and be available for selection.”
