NIALL Thompson is determined to use his pace to provide Worcester City with more of an attacking threat during his stay with the club.
The 20-year-old winger, on a one-month loan from Torquay United, announced himself on the City stage with an all-action display in last weekend’s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Coventry Sphinx. He scored the second goal with a fine solo effort and also had a hand in the third for Daniel Nti in the second qualifying round at Aggborough.
Manager Carl Heeley has been searching for a natural winger since Luke Hubbins opted to take a break from football last month and Thompson has stepped up to the plate.
Now, having helped Worcester into the next round of the cup, he wants to fire them up the Skrill North table, starting at Stockport County today (3pm).
He said: “I wanted to go out and play some games so I asked the Torquay manager (Alan Knill) and fortunately for me Worcester City came in and I didn’t think twice about it.
“I’d heard good things about them. It’s a good club so that’s why I decided to come here and hopefully while I’m here we can move up the table.
“I’ve got a little bit of pace but we’ve got some quick players such as Daniel Nti up front and Aaron Williams on the wings so hopefully I can bring a bit more to the team and make an impact during the time that I’m here.”
Thompson, who has made three appearances for the Gulls in League Two this season, added: “It’s a mental game so when defenders want to get tight and double up, that’s when you know you’ve got to them.
“I am looking to get crosses in and chip in with some goals as well so hopefully I can do that on a consistent basis.”
City have rearranged their home league match with Leamington, which was due to take place next Saturday, to Tuesday, November 12, at 7.45pm due to their FA Cup involvement.
