COUNTY cueman Darrell Bareham jets off to Australia next week to represent the British Lions at eight-ball pool.

The 37-year-old Worcester player is part of a seven-strong team that will play a five-match series against Australia in Perth between October 14 and 22.

He earned his place by winning a national qualifying tournament at Riley’s clubs across England and will be aiming to help the Lions replicate their 2011 victory Down Under.

Bareham’s achievement comes just two years after he returned to the sport from a four-year break and also hot on the heels of being selected for the England squad for the second time in his career —the last coming in 2007.

“It’s a dream come true,” he said. “Two years ago I had to start from scratch again to get back to the top, because the players are getting younger and better, and I have done it so I am chuffed to bits.

“I am really looking forward to it, they are a great bunch of lads and I can’t wait.”

The Lions team, managed by England chief Steve Mills. also comprises captain Matt Brannan (Scotland), Wayne Smith (Wales) and Ben Flack, Gavin Lomax, Giuseppe D’Imperio and Temujin Dix-on (all England).
