THERE was a time when Worcester City taking on Stockport County would have been a mismatch of considerable proportions.

Only 15 years ago, the Hatters were in the second tier of English football and had reached the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Since then, while City have maintained their position on the second rung of the non-league ladder, the Hatters have dropped like a stone through the divisions.

Tomorrow, they meet as equals at Edgeley Park (3pm) for a Skrill North encounter with Worcester four places higher in the table.

Despite being third-from-bottom and under the caretaker charge of Alan Lord since Ian Bogie’s departure, Stockport are yet to record an attendance below 2,500 for a league match this season and Worcester boss Carl Heeley is relishing the fixture.

“I am struggling to think of a bigger club that has ever played at our level,” he said.

“It’s incredible how they have come through the divisions but they are still attracting large crowds.

“Playing in front of big crowds isn’t going to faze them. They have done it loads of times.

"It’s always nice to play in front of a large crowd with a decent atmosphere.

“Whether they are playing in front of 10 people or 10,000, I expect certain things and we want to win so I don’t think they need to raise their game. We have had consistent performances so far.

“We know all the games will be tough. We are in decent form and go there with confidence that we can continue our unbeaten run.”

That stands at five games following last Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Coventry Sphinx in the FA Cup and has featured four clean sheets.

On-loan midfielder Phil Trainer returns to the side after parent club Nuneaton denied him permission to play in the FA Cup.

Centre-half Exodus Geohaghon (Achilles) and striker Ethan Moore (groin) will be assessed ahead of the Greater Manchester trip after missing the Coventry clash.

Right-back George Williams will also undergo a fitness test as he continues to recover from an ankle injury sustained in the 0-0 draw at Colwyn Bay last month.

Midfielder Ashley Sammons has joined Southern League Premier Division side Redditch United on a dual registration to play regular football, while centre-half Ashley Walker has been released.
