WORCESTERSHIRE trainer Dr Richard Newland maintained his Claines stable’s recent run of form when jockey Sam Twiston-Davies executed an excellent piece of front-running aboard Ahyaknowyerself to win the Listed Bet totescoop6 At totepool.com Hurdle at Market Rasen.
The seven-year-old had warmed up for the event by finishing fourth to the reopposing Laudatory at Stratford at the beginning of the month.
However, Ahyaknowyerself comprehensively reversed that form as Twiston-Davies was positive from the off and built up a healthy lead early on.
Despite tired leaps at the last two flights, Ahyaknowyerself (7-1) still had enough in reserve to win by 14 lengths from stable-mate Orthodox Lad.
Newland said: “We hoped it might happen (saddle a one-two) and it’s fantastic. For a yard like ours to do it in a race like this — we’ve only got 12 boxes.
“The winner is a very nice horse, we got him off Barry Connell in Ireland and he was very generous in giving me a chance to train him because, for various reasons, he wasn’t performing over there.
“His new owners have been patient as we were aiming him at Cheltenham in March but he got kicked and chipped a bone and missed a few months. He’s a very nice horse.”
Newland also had a winner at last week’s Worcester meeting when the odds-on Connectivity won with Tony McCoy in the saddle.
