ANDY Goode believes Warriors can go from stren-gth to strength under Dean Ryan’s stewardship – but he will be doing his utmost to make sure they lose this afternoon.
During his three years at Sixways, the 17-cap England fly-half struggled to see eye-to-eye with former Worcester boss Richard Hill, which culminated in him being released at the end of last season.
The 33-year-old went on to sign for Wasps, who Warriors face at Adams Park in today’s Aviva Premiership fixture, but he insists he has no animosity to those who remain at the club.
He said: “I’ve got a lot of respect for a lot of people at Worcester and hopefully they can move forward in the right way under Dean. There’s a lot of rebuilding to do from what happened in Hilly’s era and hopefully the club can go from strength to strength – starting after this weekend! My time at Worcester didn’t end acrimoniously at all, it was just one bloke’s decision not to offer me a contract and he got sacked a couple of months later.”
Goode also revealed he is a big fan of Ryan and believes Worcester executive chairman Cecil Duckworth regrets not hiring the former Glou-cester chief sooner.
The ex-Leicester and Brive number 10 also revealed Ryan sought him out over the summer to get the low-down as to what he would be taking on at Sixways.
He added: “I sat down with Dean for a coffee as he wanted to pick my brains about the club a bit. I think Cecil is very happy with Dean there now and, having heard a few things, I think he wishes he’d given him the job three years ago.
“It’s all water under the bridge now though and I’ve got a lot of time and respect for people at the club and the fans were brilliant to me as well.
“While I’ll be doing everything to help Wasps win today, I’ll look forward to seeing a few people after the game too.”
Goode continued: “They’re always good encounters bet-ween Wasps and Worcester but, unfortunately for you guys, let’s hope for a Wasps win!
“When I signed a three-year deal with Worcester, after talking to Cecil and other people, finishing my career at Worcester was possibly the plan and maybe going into coaching there too. That was then, though, and I live in the now.
“Sport is very situational though and Hilly made the decision that he made – not only for me, but for the other players as well. When you are the guy at the top making those decisions, that’s what you have to live by.
“I was lucky enough to have five or six other clubs after me and I’m very happy to be down at Wasps for the next two years and we’ll see where we go after that.”
