PHIL Trainer believes Worcester City have unearthed some talented gems who have bright futures ahead of them.

The 32-year-old midfielder has only played three games for the club since joining on a month’s loan from Nuneaton but has been impressed with what he has seen.

His additional experience has helped City go undefeated in those trio of fixtures, taking their tally to four unbeaten in total ahead of this Saturday’s FA Cup second qualifying round match against Coventry Sphinx.

But Trainer reckons manager Carl Heeley and his backroom team recruited well during the summer and is not surprised the players are now beginning to click.

Strikers Ethan Moore and Daniel Nti and defender Graham Hutchison have all caught the eye of the former Telford man, who returned to the New Bucks Head for Tuesday’s 0-0 Skrill North stalemate.

“I didn’t know many of the boys and there are some good young individual players,” Trainer said.

“Ethan is the one who stood out for me along with Daniel Nti.

“I know he’s not been scoring loads of goals but he puts the work in and I think he’s been a little bit unfortunate with his chances not to score more than he us.

“Graham Hutchison is another one who’s done well.

“There are some very good players, who I think if they keep going the way they are could have a big future in the game.

“Maybe I’ve helped a little bit but the base was there already.

“As soon as I got here I thought there were some good players and it was only a matter of time before City got a good result.

“I like to think that I’ve added a bit of experience but they just needed that cutting edge up front to try and get that goal.”

There is truth in what Trainer says — City have played well in most games this term — but it is no coincidence that results have picked up since his arrival.

Securing his services from Nuneaton was also crucial as former Walsall captain Richard Taundry, who has bulked up the midfield, picked up a groin injury in just his second game.

Trainer could also further boost City by staying beyond the initial month agreed with his Skrill Premier employers.

With first team options limited at Liberty Way, he has certainly not ruled out remaining at Aggborough and should be eligible to play in Saturday’s FA Cup tie.

“I am slowly getting that fitness back and the more games I play I am hoping the better I’ll become”, he said.

“At the minute it’s just about getting games but you never know.

“It depends how it goes at Nuneaton and if they want me here.

“We will take it month by month and assess the situation.”
