GOOD things come to those who wait and that was certainly the case for Worcester City.

Without a win from their first eight games, Carl Heeley’s side finally got off the mark in Skrill North in swashbuckling fashion.

They tore a poor Workington outfit apart from the first whistle and, barring a brief spell towards at the end of the first-half, were in total control.

City won 4-0 and could have scored more goals as they gave the Cumbrians a torrid time and sent them back up the M6 with plenty to ponder.

Ethan Moore’s four-minute brace in the first-half laid the foundations and Exodus Geohaghon and Danny Glover built on them with exquisite finishes within three minutes of each other after the break.

The final ball, lacking against Gainsborough, was much more potent and Workington had no answer.

Daniel Nti’s pace had them back-pedalling while Glover, Aaron Williams and Moore didn’t give the visitors a moment’s peace.

In defence, Geohaghon gave his best performance in a City shirt to date and fellow centre-half Shab Khan, back in the side following a three-game ban, enjoyed a fine game.

There were similar displays across the park and the home crowd lapped it up, complete with a standing ovation at the final whistle.

They would have been particularly impressed with Glover, whose determination and tenacity was at the heart of the majority of moves.

Likewise, Moore is winning an increasing number of fans by the match and he left the field midway through the second-half having shown just why City were keen to give him a second chance over the summer.

He exhibited excellent awareness to loop the ball into an empty net for his first, after keeper Callum Burton kick’s had been charged down by Nti, before pouncing in the six-yard box to convert Glover’s left-wing cut back and double City’s tally.

But for the intervention of Dominic Kennedy on the line, Moore would have completed a hat-trick soon after, a move which also saw Williams head the defender’s vital clearance against the bar.

Geohaghon, who also scored against Trinity last Tuesday, showed he is more than just a towering presence at the back by starting and finishing a fine move for the third, linking up with Williams in the process.

Glover put the icing on the cake with a strike to match his scorcher on the opening day against Altrincham, cutting in from the left and cracking a shot past the helpless Burton.

It was a day to forget for the England under 17 international, who only joined Workington hours before kick-off.

But it was one to remember for City, and their first win at Aggborough.
