ETHAN Moore’s last-gasp penalty against Gainsborough could prove to be the catalyst Worcester City need to kick start their season.

With time almost up at Aggborough on Tuesday, the striker, on as a substitute for Danny Glover, fired the ball home from the spot after being fouled by Dan Clayton to earn a 2-2 draw.

It was Worcester’s fourth point of the campaign, following draws with Brackley, Hednesford and Colwyn Bay, and certainly the most significant.

Defeat to Trinity would have left Carl Heeley’s team bottom of Skrill North and having to pick themselves up psychologically for today’s visit of Workington (3pm).

Instead, drawing level when there was no time for Gainsborough to hit back could act as a shot in the arm for the Blue and Whites.

Although still without a win in eight attempts, there will no doubt be a more positive mood in the camp than if they had been beaten.

Heeley praised the character of his players after the match and defensive midfielder Richard Taundry echoed those comments.

The 24-year-old former Walsall skipper, who is hoping to be fit to face Workington after going off with a groin strain in mid-week, said: “It was a massive point in the end with how close it was to us having nothing out of the game.

“It’s a positive and something to build on with the two draws.

“A draw away from home at Colwyn Bay is not too bad and a draw when we were behind for so long against Gainsborough gives us something to build on for the weekend.”

Moore’s goal was his second of the campaign, following on from the one he netted against Bradford Park Avenue earlier this month.

That was also an equaliser, although on that occasion Worcester went on to lose the Skrill North match 2-1.
