JAMIE Grimes underlined the strength in depth at Kidderminster Harriers with his debut against Tamworth.
The 22-year-old central defender has had to bide his time since joining the Aggborough club towards the end of last season.
He has found himself behind Josh Gowling and Chey Dunkley in the pecking order but, following a knee injury to the former, was called into action.
Despite only getting the nod during manager Steve Burr’s pre-match team talk at the Lamb, Grimes stepped up to the plate and played his part in a comfortable 3-0 victory.
The former Swansea and Forest Green Rovers player could be involved again when Harriers visit Dartford today (3pm) but is just pleased to be involved.
Grimes said: “It’s been a long time coming for me. I’ve been sat in the stands all last season but it was my time and I was glad I took the opportunity.
“I knew Josh didn’t train on Monday but I thought he was playing until the gaffer’s team-talk when he said I was in the side.
“I felt unfit but it was a great performance by the team.”
Meanwhile, Harriers fans are being offered an incentive to watch Burr’s team in action twice in three days next week.
Supporters can get £5 off entry to next Friday’s home match against Aldershot when they pay to get into Tuesday’s clash with newly-promoted Halifax at Aggborough.
