WORCESTER’S Oliver Farr described winning his maiden PGA EuroPro Tour title as “very much a rollercoaster”.
The Worcester Golf and Country Club-based professional held a three-shot lead in the Eagle Orchid Scottish Masters with three holes to play, but a bogey at 16 and a double bogey at 17 left his nerves jangling as the tournament went into a play-off.
Fortunately for the 25-year-old former Walker Cup player, he gathered himself to beat Daniel Galvins at the third extra hole to scoop the £10,000 winner’s prize.
Worcester News columnist Farr, who moved up to third in the PGA EuroPro Tour Order of Merit, said: “I got to eight under and felt pretty comfortable, but it was quite a tough finish with the wind coming into us and I hit a couple of bad shots. It was very much a rollercoaster.
“Coming down 18 I focused on making par and getting in the play-off, because I knew I wasn’t in a great frame of mind going into the last hole. I recovered well and had a good two-putt.”
Farr signed for a final round level par 71 to finish the tournament five under, tied with Gavins.
Both players parred the first two play-off holes but Gavins hit his approach shot onto the road behind the 18th green and had taken five strokes when Farr putted for par to win the competition.
