VETERAN goalkeeper Jose Veiga does not see himself as the elder statesman of the Worcester City team.

The 36-year-old from Port-ugal has played four games for the Skrill North club since arriving from Premier side Tamworth last month.

With Veiga having nine years on left-back Shabir Khan – the next oldest in the City ranks at 27 – his addition to the squad has also significantly lifted the average age.

There is no doubt his experience in a career that has included 86 appearances for Macclesfield, 92 for Estrela Amadora in Portugal and 130 for Levante in Spain’s La Liga has aided Worcester’s cause, even if they are yet to win this season.

But Veiga insists age is just a number and he wants to continue to develop his game, as well as helping City’s youngsters.

He will also hope to be part of Worcester’s first victory of the campaign when they visit Colwyn Bay today (3pm).

The keeper said: “We are always learning, we are all here to learn and try to make the least mistakes possible. It doesn’t matter what your age is. Even I have a lot to learn so I think it’s a mutual thing.

“I’ll try to do my work to benefit the team but it’s all about results at the end of the day. I am here to help and to get three points each game.”

Veiga, who also had brief spells with Harrogate and Hereford, added: “It’s a good move for me. I think everybody benefits from it. I get to play some games and do what I can to help the team to better results.”

Meanwhile, Worcester have confirmed the south stand terrace at Aggborough will be open to away fans for certain games this season.

It will be used when large numbers of travelling supporters are expected.

Currently, only two sides of the stadium are open on match-days due to cost.
