IT hasn’t taken long for Daniel Nti to become the new darling of the Worcester City team.
The 20-year-old has made himself an instant hit with three goals in the four games he has played for the club so far this season.
Fans love a goalscorer and it looks like they have a new hero to replace Mike Symons in the form of a player who netted 34 times for Loughborough University in the Midland Alliance last term.
They even started a thread on an internet message board to come to a universal consensus about how to pronounce his name to chant from the stands.
Nti has certainly made an impact, with his goals accounting for half of the six City have managed in the first six games, and the striker missed two of those fixtures through injury.
If there were any question marks over his ability to step three rungs up the non-league ladder, there aren’t now.
He has the strength to hold the ball up as a target man and bring team-mates into play, but also the pace to break free after loitering on the shoulder of the last defender.
Nti feels he has much more to offer Carl Heeley’s side and wants to put the pressure on Skrill North’s leading marksmen — Hednesford Town’s Elliott Durrell is currently out in front with eight.
“I’m happy with the goals but my aim is to score more and hopefully top that goalscoring leaderboard,” he said.
“I am happy the ball is going in the back of the net but I feel like I should be scoring more to contribute to the team as well.
“I am definitely confident I can score goals in this league. Confidence isn’t really the main thing, it’s just getting to grips with the players. Once you’re comfortable in the team the rest will come so hopefully I’m a natural finisher.”
Nti was a virtual unknown when he appeared on the team sheet for a pre-season friendly against Stourport Swifts in July.
But City boss Heeley and assistant Matt Gardiner had clearly done their homework on the player and wasted little time in snapping him up, along with Loughborough team-mates George Williams and Ebby Nelson-Addy.
“I think the right people were watching a few of my games and luckily they contacted me, which was good, and I have taken a step-up which I’m really happy about,” Nti added.
