WORCESTER Cavaliers suffered a 34-3 Aviva ‘A’ League defeat against Gloucester United at Kingsholm.

The Cherry and Whites ran in six tries through Luke Hume, Jimmy Cowan, Matt Cox, Martyn Thomas, Jonny Bentley and Jimmy Litchfield.

Cavaliers included summer signings Ofa Fainga’anuku and Chris Brooker who lined up alongside Euan Murray in the front row. Brooker was making his first appearance in over 18 months after recovering from a knee injury.

Jonny Arr, playing his 100th game for Worcester, was named at scrum-half and was handed the captain's armband for Cavaliers’ first game of the season.

Academy youngsters Harry Casson, Andrew Boyce, Elliott Davies, Max Stelling and Ben Howard also featured in the Cavaliers line-up.

The visitors came storming out the blocks and James Stephenson and Stelling made early breaks as Warriors pinned Gloucester in their own 22 in the opening five minutes.

When Gloucester did break they found themselves up against an organised Worcester and it was Cavaliers who looked the more dangerous of the sides.

But Gloucester took the lead against the run of play when Hume latched onto a kick from Bentley after 14 minutes and touched down in the corner.

Bentley played the role of provider again minutes later as he burst through the Cavaliers backline before feeding scrum-half Cowan, who ran through to double the hosts’ lead.

Former Worcester player Cox found himself on the end of another superb pass and finished the move off to further extend Gloucester’s lead and, with just over 25 minutes played, the hosts scored their try of the night after fantastic work by Hume to set-up Thomas to score.

Cavaliers started to come into the game as the first-half wore on but they couldn't penetrate the Gloucester backline.

After the break, Worcester looked more assured and they got their first points on the board after 48 minutes when Davies was successful with a penalty.

Back came Gloucester, however, and Bentley added another try after 52 minutes.

Cavaliers tried to battle back but failed to breech a resilient defence and Gloucester added a sixth try through Litchfield.
