WHAT is it about football that brings out the worst in people?

Worcester City have only been at Aggborough for two games yet already fans have taken to message boards calling for segregation.

At present, supporters of both teams stand behind the goal of the north terrace because, due to cost, the club don’t open the opposite end.

They will make exceptions for large crowds — Stockport, for example, could travel with more than 1,000 fans – but otherwise will let people mingle.

Generally, the average away team brings no more than 50 to 100 fans with them to City games so we’re not talking huge numbers.

The idea is that by opening a portion of the south stand as well, supporters will be able to stand behind the goal their team is attacking, thus solving potential clashes.

It probably will but is it really too much to ask civilised people to stand together for 90 minutes without feeling the need to goad each other to the point of a ruckus?

Apparently, it is.
