ANOTHER battling performance from Worcester City but another game without a victory.
Five games into their Skrill North campaign and Carl Heeley’s side only have two points on the board.
It certainly isn’t for the lack of trying yet three points continue to elude them following defeat at Boston.
They have some talented players and play some good football, as they did at York Street but, crucially, aren’t getting the results.
Against Hednesford on Bank Holiday Monday they paid the price for not scoring more than the two goals given to them by Daniel Nti.
Similarly against Boston, although Nti tucked another away, chances to add to their tally came and went.
Despite having twice taken the lead and missed a penalty, the Pilgrims were hanging on come the final whistle.
The hosts were also guilty of some sloppy play at both ends of the pitch during a first-half in which they were in the ascendancy.
Marc Newsham fired them ahead with a superb 25th minute strike after controlling Conor Marshall’s raking cross-field pass before cracking a shot beyond Jose Veiga.
It made up for a poor penalty from the striker just 60 seconds earlier, his spot kick, awarded for a clumsy challenge on Ricky Miller by Richard Munday, easily saved by Veiga.
Dennis Greene’s side also handed Worcester their equaliser on a plate four minutes before half-time.
One error led to another as keeper Ashley Timms opted to throw the ball to right-back Peter Bore rather than kick from hand.
Bore then turned back towards his own goal and was promptly dispossessed by Luke Hubbins, who squared the ball into the box and away from Timms for Nti to tap home.
Worcester themselves have had moments they would rather forget in defence this term and endured another seven minutes into the second period.
Failure to deal with a throw-in level with the edge of their area initially saw Miller’s shot smothered by both defenders and Veiga but Spencer Weir-Daley was on hand to drill in the loose ball.
Veiga again demonstrated why City were so keen to get him on board with two more saves to deny Miller.
Yet, as the game wore on, Boston appeared content to settle for two and City pounced.
From George Williams’ inviting cross, Nti planted an overhead kick against the post and sub Ashley Walker, on for Graham Hutchison after the central defender suffered a facial injury, headed the rebound against the bar.
The forced introduction of Danny Williams for the injured Munday gave the visitors another attacking option, while Hubbins twice got free in the box but failed to pick out a team-mate.
