MANAGER Carl Heeley has described the support shown for Worcester City in their first two matches at Aggborough as ‘fabulous’.
Fears that fans would not make the journey to Kidderminster following the club’s departure from St George’s Lane have been eased by two 700-plus attendances.
The 3-1 opening day Skrill North defeat to Altrincham was watched by a crowd of 714 and 741 were there for the 2-2 draw with Hednesford Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
City have made wholesale changes to the squad over the summer due to a lack of finances but Heeley feels the supporters understand the restraints.
“I think the people who come and support Worcester City know what the situation is and their support in the first two home games has been fabulous,” he said.
“Yes, we can improve and we will, but what we’ve got to remember is, over the last three or four seasons we’ve continually rebuilt the squad.
“The only season we didn’t rip it apart we went from 16th to seventh position. For reasons that are out of our control we’ve had to pull it apart in the summer so players take time to familiarise themselves with each other and we have to be patient.”
Left-back Shabir Khan and winger Luke Hubbins both missed the Hednesford draw with respective back and knee injuries but could be fit for this Saturday’s trip to Boston United.
Shabir’s three-game ban for violent conduct, following his red card against Gloucester, comes into force next Tuesday. He will miss the games against Bradford Park Avenue, Colwyn Bay and Gainsborough Trinity.
Centre-half Sam Smith’s suspension has ended but he is still out with a knee injury.
Forward Aaron Williams came through 90 minutes against Hednesford unscathed after recovering from a knee problem sustained in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Brackley.
