WORCESTER City go in search of their first win of the season against early league leaders Hednesford Town today (3pm).

The Blue and Whites got off the mark in Skrill North with a battling 0-0 draw at unbeaten Brackley Town at the weekend and are bidding to build on that at Aggborough.

Although Worcester only have one point on the board, manager Carl Heeley says his players have no reason to fear a Hednesford side seeking a fourth straight victory.

He said: “It was a tough start and it doesn’t get any easier with Hednesford — they are on the crest of a wave.

“They’ve been knocking on the door in the Northern Premier for a few years now and they’ve finally got themselves up and they’ll be a good side in this league.

“Sides often do well when they come up because they bring with them the momentum and Hednesford will be no different.

“It’s another tough game but if we show that commitment from the previous games we’re going to be a match for them.”

Keeper Jose Veiga, who played one pre-season match for City, is set to continue in the team after the club came to an agreement with Skrill Premier outfit Tamworth, who are the 36-year-old’s parent club.

Heeley explained: “Dale Belford, the manager at Tamworth, is a good friend of mine and he’s done us a massive favour.

“Jose hasn’t been in their squad, he’s their third keeper so they’ve allowed us to register him and play him which is fabulous.”

But Veiga’s arrival has seen rookie keeper Deale Chamberlain released without playing a game, along with midfielder Elliot Turner.

Striker Daniel Nti could be set for a return against Hednesford after missing the last two matches with a knee injury sustained against Altrincham.

The former Loughborough goal-getter had a fitness test at the weekend but it was decided to rest him in a bid to have him ready for today.

However, fellow forward Aaron Williams and left-back Shabir Khan are both doubts following the Brackley clash.

Williams left St James Park on crutches after hurting his knee and Shabir has a back problem, which forced him to be replaced by Ashley Sammons at half-time.

Meanwhile, Worcester have opted not to appeal the red card shown to Shabir in the 2-1 defeat against Gloucester City last week.

Heeley said: “We’ve spoken to Shab and we’ve made the decision as a club to accept the punishment and, although the incident we felt was harsh, we’ll accept it, move on and learn from it.”
