HEREFORD United are determined to learn from last season’s mistakes against Hyde when they travel to Greater Manchester tomorrow (3pm).
Martin Foyle’s men head north with four points from a possible six after following up the opening-day 1-1 draw against Braintree with a 2-0 victory at Conference North champions Chester on Tuesday.
However, United twice came a cropper against the then newly-promoted Hyde last term, 5-2 at Ewen Fields in September and 2-1 at Edgar Street in March.
They are two results that stuck in the mind of the Bulls boss and he is not about to let his players take the Tigers lightly again.
Although the Mancunians have been thrashed 8-0 by Forest Green Rovers and lost 2-1 to Southport this term, Foyle is treating them with the utmost respect.
“Hyde had a player sent off against a Forest Green side who I think will walk the league and they could have beaten Southport,” the Hereford manager said.
“We know they can play well but hopefully we can go and get that first goal and push on again.
“Hyde are still in my mind from two hurtful defeats last season so I’ve got to make sure the boys are ready.
“They play decent football but we battered them for the first 25 minutes up there.
“However, one or two fancy dans were showboating a little bit and we got caught just before half-time.
“Whether the players underestimated them last year, I don’t klnow, but it certainly caught a few out.
“Hyde were a much better side in the second-half but in the first we should have been 2-0 or 3-0 up.”
Hereford have several injury concerns but Foyle was remaining tight-lipped over their identities.
However, striker Sam Smith was replaced by Chris Sharp 15 minutes from the end of the Chester victory with a groin problem.
Winger Danny Pilkington and midfielder Frankie Artus were also second-half substitutes at the Deva Stadium and could play more of a role at Hyde.
Scott Niven has bolstered his attacking options this term at Hyde with Louis Almond returning on loan from Blackpool.
